Survivor: South Off-shoreline Champion Sophie Clarke: "I'm Trying to become Little Sunnier"
Sophie Clarke, Rob Probst If anybody knows the value of an immunity challenge it will have to be Sophie Clarke. One of the final participants left on Survivor: South Off-shoreline, the 22-year-old medical student from Willsboro, NY, wasn't any leader. But after winning the ultimate immunity challenge of the year and ousting fan favorite and Survivor veteran Oscar "Ozzy" Lusth within the very last minute, the sport was out of the blue Clarke's to win. We taken track of Clarke soon after she outshine Benjamin "Coach" Wade and baseball coach Albert Destrade for your grand prize of $millions of to uncover what she was thought her probability of winning were following a final tribal council, how a show changed her existence and why she'd return to Survivor in the heartbeat.TV Guide Magazine: How perhaps you have feel beginning the finale?Clarke: I used to be so nervous. I used to be watching the show backstage which i started crying watching myself cry. I believed I'd break lower.TV Guide Magazine: Perhaps you have think you'd win?Clarke: I'd liberating. You never know, right? You never know if within the very last minute these individuals that you're acquiring a great continue reading through write lower Albert's title, or something like that like this. So, I felt like I'd win, however it might be a detailed election.TV Guide Magazine: That last tribal council was kind of gnarly. Clarke: I don't think you saw all the gnarl that was there! Everyone was lighting into everyone. In my opinion really the only comfort... well, there has been a few things that have been comforting. One was that Coach was configuring it much worse than I used to be. Albert was configuring it much worse than us. Which I'd champagne throughout my water bottle within the breakfast, to make sure that was soothing my nerves too.Television Guide Magazine: Your personality received plenty of scrutiny throughout the summer season. Whoever else remove everything critique?Clarke: I've always considered my confidence to become characteristic, and that i have always kind of been pleased with how blunt I used to be. I merely felt appreciate it was me. I have not changed that however i am just more conscious of how it's removed to people initially. I'm more alert to my first impressions. I'm trying to become little a great deal a lot more like Beginning [Meehan], somewhat sunnier.TV Guide Magazine: There made an appearance being no love lost between you together with a couple of from the other participants around the program, however everyone appear chummy again. Clarke: It's a game title title, and part of my game only decided to be to become hard-ass and sightseeing and remaining the course and being serious and calm. I didn't desire to align while using Savaii [tribe]. I didn't wish to be pals together. I desired them out. It is therefore different in the sport and from the sport. Also, I really felt like I, greater than anybody, had my personality removed of me because of the [inadequate] food. I didn't appear like myself available. I'm frequently a really funny, pleased person, which i felt the whole time like I used to be Mrs. Potato Mind - expressionless. It absolutely was really awful.TV Guide Magazine: What went lower?Clarke: I had been depriving. Physically I looked different, I lost a great deal weight. But psychologically, it's overwhelming.TV Guide Magazine: I've learned you're feeling feelings as if you haven't felt before?Clarke: Oh, exactly! I used to be telling Beginning, I'm afraid that i'm not likely to feel such extreme feelings again throughout my existence. I required part within this charitable organization event, fasting for just about any day for health clinic, which i'm excited due to it because I believed, maybe with the finish throughout your day I'll have a similar kind of pleasure about eating a blueberry that we felt round the island. As well as, I didn't. You may never recapture it. In my opinion this is why every one of these Children keep coming back. Once we were available we thought they were crazy. That is sadistic! Why are you able to ever do for you again? Now I recognize. It's the feelings. I am unable to describe them and so they can't encounter on tv. Watching the show and standing on this program are two different encounters. It's existence-changing.TV Guide Magazine: You stated that on tv. What is the finest change?Clarke: In my opinion you're in the weakest, you're at most vulnerable. You figure all of this out in regards to you skill physically and psychologically - what you might handle. It gives you a great deal confidence within your everyday existence. It's tough to convey other activities can be a challenge.TV Guide Magazine: Are you able to do Survivor again?Clarke: I'd check it out again in the heartbeat. It might seem so absurd to convey. I have nothing to prove, it's a little more about recapturing the emotions and meeting a whole quantity of new people.TV Guide Magazine: Exactly what are you going associated with $millions of?Clarke: I'm in med school at this time around, so I have got a lot of financial financial loans. Well, I'm not likely to possess a lot of financial financial loans. It will help reduce my ideas a good deal.Indication as much as TV Guide Magazine now!

Nomination reaction: Mike White-colored, professional producer, 'Enlightened'
White-colored"To convey it's unforeseen is certainly an understatement. Laura (Dern) warrants it nevertheless the show will be a slow build and, hopefully, the one that everyone rallies around. Cinemax can be as excited much like me. In my opinion they're doing love the show. This (nom) can be a large deal for people. It's awesome for 'Modern Family' but also for us it's a completely factor."-- Mike White-colored, professional producer, "Enlightened" Contact Stuart Levine at stuart.levine@variety.com

This is incredible to be recognized by my fellow members of the Screen Actors Guild for two of my favorite projects. I couldnt do the work I do on TV Lands Hot in Cleveland without the support and love of my fellow cast mates Valerie Bertinelli, Jane Leeves, Wendie Malick, the amazing writers, and of course the shows creator, Suzanne Martin. Also, I have always wanted to do a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie and The Lost Valentine was an amazing experience due mostly to Jennifer Love Hewitt, Darnell Martin(the director), the producers and the wonderful folks at Hallmark Hall of Fame. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. - Betty White, nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Movie or Miniseries for Hallmark Hall of Fame: The Lost Valentine, and Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for Hot In Cleveland ** I am incredibly moved and so grateful to my fellow actors for recognizing my role in Moneyball with this nomination. I feel so lucky to be an actor today as I do everyday. I owe a huge thanks and much credit to our entire cast and crew, our writers, and especially to our fearless leader and director Bennett Miller and to Brad Pitt, the most generous onscreen partner anyone could hope for. Having my work honored today by my peers pushes me to work even harder. - Jonah Hill, nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role, Moneyball ** Its an honor to be recognized by your peers and I thank my fellow SAG members for this nomination and am proud to have been a part of such an incredible ensemble, as well as Woody Allens vision. - Owen Wilson, nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, Midnight in Paris ** I am enormously touched by this nomination from the SAG membership. David Fincher on 'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo'
David Fincher on
'The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo'David Fincher started shooting "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" 25 days after turning in "The Social Network." That kind of accelerated schedule would be taxing even in the best circumstances, much less with the challenges Fincher and his crew faced in getting the big-budget adaptation of Stieg Larsson's blockbuster crime novel off the ground."It was difficult to have such a rushed prep, and then work in a foreign country," Fincher says in an email exchange with Variety. "Sweden was patient with us and melding the two filmmaking worlds together. Weather was a challenge, more so the lack of daylight or the lack of darkness and trying to schedule around it."And then there was the material itself. Fincher, of course, is no stranger to dark themes, having explored humanity's baser instincts in such movies as "Seven," "Fight Club" and "Zodiac." He says his attraction to "Dragon Tattoo" had less to do with the book's more lurid aspects than with the "idea of sexual politics between men and women.""I was interested in making a movie for adults," Fincher says. "The book is for adults and I liked that the studio was interested in keeping it that way."Fincher was also determined to preserve the edginess of the novel's heroine, Lisbeth Salander, and not have her become, in his words, too "bitchin'." The revenge aspect of the material presented this trap, Fincher believes, and he and actress Rooney Mara strove to avoid having Salander, whom the late Larsson described as a grown-up twist on Sweden's famous Pippi Longstocking heroine, turn into a vengeful cartoon character hell-bent on settling an old score."We did not want her to stand out," Fincher says. "She needed to disappear. And, if seen, everything about her says, 'Fuck off.'"EYE ON THE OSCARS: THE DIRECTOR Helmers hot to globe trotWoody Allen | Stephen Daldry | David Fincher | Michel Hazanavicius | Terrence Malick | Bennett Miller | Alexander Payne | Jason Reitman | Martin Scorsese | Steven SpielbergIn the Mix Contact the Variety newsroom at news@variety.com

Ryan Seacrest as Potential Matt Lauer 'Today' Alternative: Exactly what the Media Says
Chuck star Zachary Levi may be the latest celebrity to host Spike TV's Gaming Honours show, which is broadcast survive December 10 at 8pm ET from La. Levi, who's finishing the ultimate season of Chuck, follows within the actions of famous players like Jack Black and Samuel L. Jackson as host from the event.our editor recommends'Chuck' Star Zachary Levi to Host Spike TV's Gaming Honours (Exclusive)'Chuck's' Vik Sahay Systems on Lester: 'Don't Determine If I'll Ever Have the Same Singing Again' Mark Burnett (Survivor), executive producer of the year's ceremony, arrived at to Levi to create a players' sensibility towards the show. The actor discusses the emergence of game titles being an talent and the way forward for interactive entertainment within this exclusive interview. PHOTOS: 10 Broadcast and Cable Television Show Most Viewed By Males The Hollywood Reporter: Why did you choose to host the 2011 VGAs? Zachary Levi: I wish to pay homage and tribute to any or all the designers and gaming firms that have ongoing to mold my very own existence and my entertainment. THR: What role will celebs participate in the VGAs this season? Levi: Personally, i don't would like it to be an honours show where it's nearly putting celebs inside for celebrities' sake. I am wishing the celebs which i get are those who have some type of legitimate love or participation on the planet of gaming, when i do. That's a minimum of where I get up on it. "It may ultimately possess a resonance along with a weight that a few of the various other, I guess, exclusive honours shows have finally.Inch THR: Would you believe the VGAs will ultimately become for games exactly what the Oscars or Emmys are for film and tv? Levi: In my opinion when the VGAs continue doing right through the gaming community, be in keeping with it, focus on players, and also have that awesome, fun, atmosphere, but respect for that genre itself, they will just still gain respect being an honours show. It may ultimately possess a resonance along with a weight that a few of the various other, I guess, exclusive honours shows have finally. THR: How can you begin to see the VGAs evaluating with other honours shows you have been associated with? Levi: A variety of it is simply patting one another around the back, regardless of the market is, be it the Emmys, the Academy awards, or even the Gaming Honours. I believe probably the most essential things is the fact that it's entertaining, fun, and pays tribute to individuals which have been ongoing to guide the charge in whatever that medium is. THR: How perhaps you have seen the significance of story evolve in gaming today? Levi: Getting an excellent narrative is essential because games have become many a lot more like these interactive movies that you simply spend lots of your time and effort with. I believe the Uncharted games did an amazing job at this. The men at Naughty Dog have just ongoing to create a fantastic title. Clearly, Infinity Ward and Treyarch are constantly returning and forth and getting us an enjoyable experience within their first-person world with Cod games. And Bethesda (Softworks) is constantly on the in the ante using the Elder Scrolls games like Oblivion and also the new Skyrim. THR: Since you are overall Chuck, what's next for you personally? Levi: As someone who works in entertainment and it is an enthusiastic gamer, I've got a large amount of ideas. I actually want to begin to make and bridging the space between gaming entertainment and live action entertainment. I wish to begin to make interactive shows where you are watching stars like myself portray figures that, after we get into fight, you may be motivated either to opt-out or opt-directly into manipulating the results of that fight...similar to a choose your adventure. This is where I begin to see the future going. The greater interactive you may make entertainment, as well as providing people with options of passive or active entertainment, the greater. I really like what Kinect does. You do not need a handheld remote control any longer. You may either voice command or wave your hands around and have the ability to make use of whenever and wherever you would like. It's fascinating. THR: Players happen to be streaming content in record amounts online. How can you observe that affecting the way forward for television? Levi: For a long time now, my philosophy continues to be that the television are only a thing for the monitor. It will not be considered a service, always, any longer. Everything will you need to be blocked in, as you are likely to be streaming everything. It is going to open and extremely broaden the field of entertainment for independent entertainment producers to have the ability to basically make whatever they would like to make then sell it straight to their group of followers, which will probably be incredible. If they are making something that's good, people will find it watching it. THR: Exactly what does this suggest for that current prime time television model? Levi: Television will persist within the model that people view it, but increasingly more it is much more about sporting occasions and reality competitions stuff that individuals have to look at live. Being an marketer, increasing numbers of people are DVRing their programming or watching it on the internet, you are not receiving your hard earned money from the advertisement investment, so it is going to alter the model drastically. Sour note for Bachmann on 'Fallon'
Michele Bachmanns appearance on NBCs 'Late Night With Jimmy Fallon' caused a stir among conservative bloggers.
When GOP presidential contender Michele Bachmann took to the stage on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon" on Monday night, she was greeted to strange-sounding entrance music. As it turned out, it was a song called "Lyin' Ass Bitch."Naturally, the choice of the song created an uproar, particularly among conservative bloggers, but also among those on the other side of the ideological spectrum from Bachmann. Rep. Nita Lowey (D-N.Y.) called the choice of music "insulting and inappropriate," and called for an apology from NBC, Fallon and the Roots. The choice apparently was made by Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson, bandleader for the Roots. who is not only a supporter and contributor to President Obama, but teased his choice in a tweet shortly after the show. On Tuesday, he was more conciliatory. NBC and Fallon had no official comment, but directed reporters to a statement that Questlove issued."The performance was a tongue-in-cheek and spur of the moment decision. The show was not aware of it and I feel bad if her feelings were hurt. That was not my intention," he said. The incident will probably not slow the trek of contenders to late night talk shows (Daily Variety, Nov. 18), but it could quiet Questlove's choice of provocative entrance music. As Fallon said in his own tweet, "@questlove is grounded." Who Goes 'Hardest' in the Eight New Avengers Character Posters?
Though The Avengers doesn’t come out until May, it’s already time to play the same game we did with Bridesmaids’s first poster: Who goes hardest? Is it Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man? Is it Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff? What about Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton? We score all eight characters’ ferocity and pick a winner after the jump. RDJ looks slightly disoriented as Iron Man, unfortunately. He looks like he’s searching for a fuse box in an Avengers HQ blackout. Chris Hemsworth still looks less like the god of thunder here, and more like the god of a 1988 volleyball tournament at Will Rogers beach. I’m not seeing much grit in either combatant. Downey: (out of 4) Hemsworth: That Chris Evans under there? He still resembles a specialty American Gladiator maybe named “Jingoism,” but that’s kind of fun. Meanwhile, Ruffalo’s unassuming Bruce Banner looks like a TV psychic or the American replacement host for Anne Robinson on The Weakest Link. There’s some subversion there, but not enough to make the post interesting. Evans: Ruffalo: Much better. Samuel L. Jackson’s murderous glare as Nick Fury is pleasantly terrifying, and he really makes the leather ensemble work for him. Tom Hiddleston is offering the same campy glam as he did in Thor, but his vogueing ball chutzpah is fabulous in a superhero poster. These guys move right to the top of the class. Jackson: Hiddleston: Jeremy Renner? More like Generic-ky Renner. Between Hawkeye’s drab costuming and uncommitted mugging, he looks like he’s ready to star in a mildly rambunctious romcom, not a superhero super-feature. Scarlett Johansson, however, is packing the Nordic finesse of another Johansson as Black Widow: Ingemar. That’s the “Hammer of Thor” fearsomeness Mr Hemsworth is lacking. Her ass silhouette is also quite fetching. Renner: Johansson: That puts Jackson in first place with Hiddleston and Johansson pulling in for a silver and bronze finish. Now: Your verdict?

Believe to start a pokey Monday before Thanksgiving in comparison with a casting news about some knighted British symbols. Good novel by Swedish author Henning Mankell, 'Shoes' focuses on a outdated physician (Hopkins) "expected to confront his past mistakes when he's reunited by getting a classic flame (Dench)." Branagh, who mentioned the film is "tailor-made" for your group of acting leaders, hopes to start filming in 2012 or 2013, regarding the stars's busy agendas. Public reopens book on 'Gatz'
Legit American-lit marathon "Gatz" is set for a return run this spring at Off Broadway's Public Theater, where the show turned into an unlikely crowd-magnet last year. Elevator Repair Service's 6 1/2-hour stage version of "The Great Gatsby," which centers on an office worker who becomes engrossed in reading the F. Scott Fitzgerald novel, encompasses a verbatim reading of the entire book. Scott Shepherd will reprise his role as the office worker. Despite the arty production's hefty running time, the show -- which has toured the country -- became a notable success at the Public and sold out its run even before it opened. This spring "Gatz" will be back for a seven-week engagement that runs March 14-May 6. Encore of the show replaces the previously skedded preem of Nathan Englander's play "The Twenty-Seventh Man," now set to open in November 2012. Show was pushed back due to a scheduling conflict among the collaborators, according to the Public. Elevator Repair Service's recent version of "The Sun Also Rises" played Off Broadway's NY Theater Workshop earlier this year. Contact Gordon Cox at gordon.cox@variety.com
'Again I Got Away': Arnold Schwarzenegger's Total Recall DVD Commentary is Priceless
Remember the scene in Total Recall where our foe’s eyes pop out of his head at a climactic moment? Well, your ears will perform a similar feat when you hear Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Total Recall DVD commentary with director Paul Verhoeven. It’s as monotone, Austrian, and filled with hearty chuckles as you imagine. It is still funny. In fact, it is the best thing I’ve heard all month. It meets my expectations, yet defies belief. I’ve checked a couple times to make sure it’s not an amazing impersonation, but apparently both Verhoeven and Schwarzenegger really recorded a commentary. How can I possibly gift-wrap this and give it to my uncles for Christmas? Why isn’t an electroclash remix available yet? Come on, internet. Arnold Schwarzenegger on ‘Total Recall’ [Buzzfeed]

Academy's Doc Shortlist Includes -- and Leaves Out -- Plenty of Great Films (Analysis)
Courtesy of The Cinema Guild Each year when the Academy's documentary branch screening committee announces its shortlist of 15 films from which the five best documentary (feature) Oscar contenders will be selected, as they did today, there are inevitably a few omissions that leave doc buffs stunned. This year is no exception. I applaud the committee for a number of its selections this year: If a Tree Falls, a gripping doc about eco-terrorism by Marshall Curry, who was previously nominated for Street Fight (2005); Pina, a German doc about dance in which the great Wim Wenders makes some of the best use of 3-D that I have ever seen; Buck, Cindy Meehl's moving doc about master horse whisperer Buck Brannaman, which won this year's Sundance Film Festival doc audience award winner; and the nature vs. nurture doc Project Nim, James Marsh's first doc since his Man on Wire (2008) won the Oscar three years ago. PHOTOS: Oscar Legends on Oscar But I also have a few major gripes... How could the Academy's doc folks screw Steve James again? 17 years ago they snubbed his Hoop Dreams (1994), which is now widely regarded as one of the greatest docs of all-time, and now they have done the same thing to The Interrupters, his look at inner-city violence and some of the unexpected folks who are bravely venturing to its front lines to try to combat it. Why would they leave off Senna, Asif Kapadia's immensely engaging portrait of the late race car driver Ayrton Senna, which is available in both 2-D and 3-D? Do they have something against racing? They also neglected to recognize the aforementioned Curry's doc Racing Dreams (2009) two years ago, even though it might be the best doc of the 21st century. PHOTOS: The Top 11 Oscar Snubs What is their reason for failing to nominate -- year after year -- the films of the revered veterans Errol Morris and Werner Herzog? Sure, Morris won the category's Oscar for The Fog of War (2003), but that doesn't make up for the snubs of the snubs of Gates of Heaven (1980), The Thin Blue Line (1988), and Standard Operating Procedure (2008), to say nothing of this year's Tabloid. And Herzog was surely deserving of their attention for Grizzly Man (2005), Cave of Forgotten Dreams (2010), and now Into the Abyss, a mesmerizing two-hour film that is all the more impressive because he put it together using only eight hours of footage. Do they have a problem with HBO Documentaries? The doc powerhouse had at least two worthy candidates that missed this year -- Greg Barker's Koran by Heart, which shows the Muslim world in ways that I'd never seen it before, and was a huge crowd-pleaser at Tribeca; and Martin Scorsese's George Harrison: Living in the Material World, about lesser-known sides of the late Beatle. PHOTOS: Oscar Show Moments Was there really not enough room for Andrew Rossi's Page One: Inside the NY Times, which is about as timely a doc as one could hope to find, in the sense that it captures in unprecedented ways the turbulent changes that are taking place in the world of American media right now? Or Constance Mark's Being Elmo: A Puppeteer's Journey, which is among the most successful docs of the year critically (92% on Rotten Tomatoes) and commercially (it made over $25,000 on one screen its opening weekend)? How about Jon Shenk's The Island President? The film, which shows the consequences of some of what was predicted in the Oscar-winning global warming doc An Inconvenient Truth (2006), played well at Telluride, won doc audience award at Toronto, was just picked up by Samuel Goldwyn Films. And Alex Stapleton's Corman's World: Exploits of a Hollywood Rebel? They were interested enough in its subject, the indie filmmaking trailblazer Roger Corman, to give him an honorary Oscar two years ago, so why not a film that captures why he matters. And Allison Ellwood and doc Oscar winner Alex Gibney's Magic Trip? The film takes you right into the head(-trip) of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest author Ken Kesey as he rambled across America. I could go on. I wish the doc shortlist could have, too. Oscars Oscars 2012

Donatella Versace Nixes Real Women as Models for brand new H&M Fashion Line
Getty ImagesDonatella Versace, left, with Emma Roberts Donatella Versaceis not quite an ordinary-searching -- or normal-sized -- lady. The paper attempted to set up a shoot featuring the gathering worn by real up-and-coming NYers. All of the models are recent grads at high-profile jobs, charged as "NY's new energy gamers." The paper was informed by H&M that "Donatella will not approve shooting the gathering on real women." Following the paper sent over photos from the "real women" for approval, these were informed that some didn't "fit [Versace's] branding." The ladies were naturally disappointed because they are fans from the line and were searching toward modeling the low-listed clothes. Possibly it shouldn't happen to be an unexpected because the paper was relayed through a PR repetition for H&M that Donatella will not approve shooting the gathering on -- God forbid -- real women. Based on the Daily Mail, these real women ranged in dress size from the U.S. to some 6. Versace's decision is greatly at odds with H&M's decidely democratic method of fashion. Getting faced lower every news org inside the city through the abortive eviction of Occupy Wall Street protesters at Zuccotti Park in mid-October, the NYPD selected to perform a second operation without any warning and under an apparent media blackout on Tuesday between evening time and two a.m. CBS was asked for to keep air space inside the park apparent (the web happen to be live streaming the confrontation between protesters and police). Rosie Gray in the Village Voice told an NYPD officer they will be a part of the press, the officer apparently responded, "Not tonight." NY Top Court Justice Michael Stallman retroactively upheld the group's eviction around the block on Tuesday mid-day, proclaiming that the initial Amendment did not guarantee activists the legal right to indefinitely setup shop inside the plaza. Many tweeted news of forced removal within the scene beneath the hashtag #mediablackout. Manhattan City Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez appeared to become arrested. One outlet not caught suddenly was the NY Publish, that's been campaigning for just about any shutdown in the protest for a lot of days. What Is The News Corp. newspaper's late city final stood a censored picture from the naked protester taken your entire day prior together with a complete story round the eviction, with particulars about Mayor Michael R. Following a eviction, a lot of Occupy protesters wound up with no the avenue for call the media, now fully awake, adopted OWS to Duarte Park, an individual park possessed by sometime Occupy ally Trinity Wall Street, an Episcopal chapel. Protesters leaped the wooden fence and rose using a hole inside the chainlink to begin creating shop. Inside, a business within the Occupy "puppet guild" nervously manned a 3-person Statue of Liberty puppet. "Is it coming?" one asked for a present arrival. "We should decide whether we're out or possibly in, because it seems like prone to block us inside," he mentioned. Tony and Oscar champion Frances McDormand seen within the pavement and required part within the chanting since the attack began, although she asked for not to be reported with this particular article. 5 top Leonardo DiCaprio Performances
La (AP) Leonardo DiCaprio has performed famous, real-existence figures before, including Howard Hughes in "The Aviator," but no role has needed him to span the amount of time he does in Clint Eastwood's "J. Edgar" because the former FBI director J. Edgar Hoover. Well, unless of course you count the times upon days upon years that pass in "Beginning," but which makes my brain hurt just starting to consider it.DiCaprio shows this enigmatic, energy-hungry figure from his rise with the bureau to his final breathing decades later (by using some old-guy makeup that is not entirely convincing). It's another illustration of his great range and intelligence within the projects he selects, also it provides for us an opportunity to think back at his best performances: "Catch Me If You're Able ToInch (2002): DiCaprio reaches his charming best because real-existence disadvantage guy Frank Abagnale Junior., playing an elegant bet on cat-and-mouse with Tom Hanks because the FBI agent on his tail. Steven Spielberg's comic caper is just one of his most playful films, and something of his best, and far of their pleasure originates from DiCaprio's central performance. He sweet-talks his distance to or from any tricky situation with individuals boyish visual appearance of his, but it is obvious almost always there is something sharper and craftier underneath the surface. He makes Abagnale appear like he's forever in command even if he's near getting caught and that he makes you need to see him pull off individuals ill-become millions. "What's Eating Gilbert Grape?" (1993): DiCaprio gained the very first of his three Oscar nominations (others were for "The Aviator" and "Bloodstream Gemstone") for playing Arnie Grape, a psychologically disabled 17-year-old residing in small-town Iowa. His older brother, Gilbert (The Actor-brad Pitt), cares for him and also the relaxation from the family, including their 500-pound mother, and that is virtually all of the future would appear to keep for him. Lasse Hallstrom's film could be a little too sentimental and it is jammed with quirkiness, but DiCaprio's performance slices everything. His directness counter-balances the whimsy. There is a rawness to his tics, to his very presence, that's riveting. "Beginning" (2010): In Christopher Nolan's beautiful, ambitious machine, DiCaprio is a vital cog: master "dream crook" Dom Cobb, who assembles his crew and gets into for your attempted-and-true one further job. He's with confidence in charge because he deftly puts all of the pieces together and keeps tracks of the several prodigies and eccentrics on his team, but younger crowd infuses the smoothness with vulnerability to enhance his drive. Wistful reminiscences of his wife and 2 children supply the necessary heart to balance the intense braininess from the picture, some gentleness to lighten the substantial heft of the demanding intellectual exercise. "The Departed" (2006): In Martin Scorsese's best-picture champion (his third film using the director, following "Gangs of NY" and "The Aviator"), DiCaprio plays a Massachusetts Condition Officer who goes undercover to consider lower a criminal offense boss. He and Matt Damon, because the crime boss' protege who's treated the condition police, are two sides of the identical gold coin and it is a pleasant touch the stars physically resemble one another with individuals very blue eyes along with a look that may be either considered boyish or fiendish, based on your point of view. DiCaprio is basically playing two separate parts through the film he's feeling the tug of his conflicting allegiances and the inner torment is palpable. "The Basketball Journals" (1995): DiCaprio is thrilling as Jim Carroll, the late NY poet and music performer who chronicled his teenage descent into heroin addiction in the memoir of the identical title. He shows great range inside a single performance, between your physicality from the athleticism and violence needed of him and also the emotional depths he plumbs at Carroll's cheapest moments. This can be a great illustration of how his babyish features and lanky frame can appear alternately wholesome and harmful. This performance and the operate in "Gilbert Grape" provided a thrilling, early peek at the courageous actor he'd become.Copyright 2011 Connected Press. All privileges reserved. Movember Mustache Movie Madness: 6 Great Cop 'Staches
By Jim Gibbons Each year during the month of November, men grow mustaches to help raise cancer-fighting funds for the Livestrong and Prostate Cancer Foundations. It's a month-long effort to change the face of men's health called Movember. As the sound of 'staches sprouting worldwide sends a manly signal across the globe, one begins to compulsively contemplate the many amazing mustaches men have sported in movies throughout the years. Let's begin with a look at a popular film profession well known for its prowess in the proud mustache tradition: Police officers! Danny Glover as Roger Murtaugh in the "Lethal Weapon" franchise Roger Murtaugh was a solid cop for years, but when he began his 50th birthday by shaving his beard into a mustache, he went from being a good cop getting the job done to an exceptional lawman taking down drug cartels and Asian mob operations. Murtaugh's 'stache was "too old for this s---" in the first "Lethal Weapon" but kept kicking and kicking ass for three more films. Most would claim his partner Martin Riggs (Mel Gibson) was a bigger key to his success, but don't overlook his other constant companion: the mustache. Gary Oldman as Jim Gordon in "Batman Begins," "The Dark Knight" and "The Dark Knight Rises" The mustachioed Jim Gordon came up through the ranks in the mob-heavy, corruption-filled cops and crooks culture of Gotham City. One of the few clean copsevident not just by his actions but by his trustworthy 'stacheGordon befriended the Batman, helped save Gotham from destruction at the hands of Ra's Al Ghul, faced off with the Joker and lived to tell the tale. And he was promoted to Commissioner in the process. A 'stache-less man might have gone Andy Griffith, shaved his mo and headed for the country, but not Jim Gordon. Reginald VelJohnson as Sgt. Al Powell in "Die Hard" and "Die Hard 2" Sure he started as a fat cop casually patrolling his beat while wolfing down snack cakes, but he saved John McClane's life and ensured we'd be able to enjoy three (possibly four?) more "Die Hard" films. A cool head in hot situations, Powell's voice breezing through the whiskers of his sturdy mustache into a walkie-talkie steadied McClane in a sticky situation at Nakatomi Tower and assuredly helped to steady his hand when he needed to take down a crazed, machine gun-wielding psycho. And, on a non-fictional note, Reginald VelJohnson's mighty mustache performance as Powell paved the way for one of TV's most steadfast cop-stache's, Carl Winslow's fuzzy caterpillar of "Family Matters" fame! Seth Rogen as Officer Michaels in "Superbad" Sporting a thin Hulk Hogan-style horseshoe of face fuzz, Officer Michaels may not have been a great cophell, he may not have even been a good copbut he made all the difference for one young McLovin and sometimes that's what really matters. He may have made light of the earnest business of law enforcement, but he sure was serious about that 'stache. Eddie Murphy as Detective Axel Foley in the "Beverly Hill Cop" trilogy Even considering tough competition like Rogen's Officer Michaels, Axel Foley is arguably the funniest mustache-sporting cop to grace the silver screen. However, even Hightower fans can't argue against Axel F's claim to the best cop-'stache theme music in the history of film. Perhaps drawing on the powerful detective 'stache skills of fellow Detroit sports fan Magnum P.I., Foley's mo was as steadfast an accessory as his Lions jacket and, along with his laugh-inducing investigative methods, helped him take down murderers and counterfeiters miles away from his home in the Motor City. Bruce Willis as Detective Jack Mosley in "16 Blocks" Bruce Willis is known for playing bad ass cops like McClane, but when he harnessed the power of the mustache to play drunk, down-and-out detective Jack Mosley, he still managed to make paunchy old investigators seem tough as nails. Now, maybe he managed bad ass status through his heroic actions as he saved a cake baking witness from death at the hands of corrupt cops, but I think the classic cop-'stache certainly helped pull it off! Jim Gibbons is an assistant editor at Dark Horse Comics and a third year Movember participant. You can follow his mustache growth progress and donate to his Movember efforts at http://mobro.co/jimgibbons, and follow him on Twitter at @EnemyOfPeanuts.
Henry Cavill Talks 'Man Of Steel' And 'Immortals' On Tonight Show
Henry Cavill will not burst to the scene as Superman for a while yet, but you are going to get a first good consider the guy for action-hero mode a few days ago using the discharge of "Immortals." The actor made an appearance around the Tonight Show now to discuss his new movie, and that he offered up a great deal on his "Guy of Steel" routine too. We have got the entire rundown on his appearance right right here. Take a look at more comic movie news past the break! Curious About "Question Lady" Why has it taken such a long time for Question Lady to really make it towards the giant screen? Current "Question Lady" author John Azzarello and artist High cliff Chiang considered in around the subject inside a new interview, with Chiang quarrelling that its perfect time for any "Question Lady" movie to occur. Going "Underneath The Dome" "Y: The Final Guy" and "Ex Machina" creator John K. Vaughan may be the guy to evolve Stephen King's "Underneath the Dome" for Showtime. Vaughan's most widely known for his operate in comics, but younger crowd held an employee author position on "Lost" for 3 seasons from the hit ABC series. As Damon Lindelof remarked, the Vaughan-King collaboration is basically "the chocolate meets peanut butter of writing." Mickey Rourke Jams "Iron Guy 2" Team Count Rourke among the lots who did not take care of "Iron Guy 2." The actor had strong things to say of his collaborators at Marvel as well as their decision to depart the very best areas of Whiplash on the ground, in the words. Take a look within the video below. James Cameron on 'Avatar' Sequels: More Planets, More Water, Less Politics
James Cameron continues to be making the models to advertise the April 2012 re-discharge of 'Titanic three dimensional,' however the Oscar-winning King around the globe lately sitting lower with ABC's Nightline to go over something apart from filmmaking: his role being an environmentalist and hybrid owner. Fortunately for you personally, that subject did not stop ABC's Bill Weir from asking a couple of movie-related questions, such as the director's ideas around the approaching 'Avatar' sequels. First of all, audiences may have the chance to understand more about another side from the Na'avi planet The planet pandora: the sea. Well, I am really writing the 2nd and third films together, therefore it completes a kinda three film story arc. And we'll begin to see the oceans of The planet pandora ... which we've not seen whatsoever, and that is an ecosystem that I am dying to begin creating because its likely to look spectacular. However it narrows the spotlight rather than just character generally or even the jungle. It focuses it a bit more on sea issues, because you will find there's planet this is a blue planet. From the distance, your perception, our planet is much more blue than, you realize brown, the land mass. We are making the oceans unsurvivable for a number of the species at this time. For much or reasons. It is simply a method to focus just a little energy for the reason that direction. And you will see other planets too, besides The planet pandora. It will likely be a cornucopia, a goody for that eyes. The director added that although the sequels would have a similar feel because the first movie, there it's still lots of space for discovery -- for audiences and also the figures themselves. I believe it is simply a continuation of the identical factor. I would like individuals to believe same feeling of excitement about this world. You realize, the imaginary Na'vi people and that i would like them to believe excitement of discovery of the " new world " that they are likely to see stuff that they haven't imagined. Everything kind of the perk package from the first movie continues to be likely to be there. And also the styles is going to be there and become performed out in ways which i think people can accept. Cameron also addressed the political character from the first film, which the 'Avatar' sequels were not likely to hit you within the mind by having an overtly professional-atmosphere message. (Once the first movie was launched, in 2009, some wondered whether or not this was pure entertainment or perhaps a pointed political statement.) I am not likely to be strident. I am not likely to say, 'Well, we've got away with this particular much environment content within the first movie, now there's double.' Because I believe that might be an error. It needs to be entertainment first of all. Oh, and for 'Titanic,' Cameron lately viewed it the very first time in 5 years. His ideas? "You realize, it's kinda slow at the start, [but] it will get going." [ABC via Not Far Off] [Photo: twentieth century Fox] Follow Moviefone on Twitter Like Moviefone on Facebook

Swank has drawn criticism for attending the Oct. 5 government-organized 35th birthday bash for Kremlin-backed Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, who according to human rights groups has been linked to torture, abductions and killings. VIDEO: Awards Watch Roundtable: The Actresses, Including Hilary Swank Earlier Thursday, Swank said she had not been aware of the accusations against Kadyrov. "I deeply regret attending this event," Swank said in a statement."If I had a full understanding of what this event was apparently intended to be, I would never have gone." Swank issued the message after the Human Rights Watch and other groups criticized her -- along with actor Jean Claude Van Damme, singer Seal and British violinist Vanessa Mae -- for attending the show. All the performers were paid to appear at the event. Soon after Swank made her apology, the Human Rights Foundation questioned her intentions with respect to the money she had received. STORY: Hilary Swank, Jean-Claude Van Damme Slammed for Attending Birthday of Chechen Leader "After five days of wall-to-wall criticism, this is weak, especially given that the Human Rights Foundation (HRF) sent a warning directly to Swank through her manager on Sept. 26 -- a full 10 days before the party," HRF's Sarah Wasserman said in a statement. "We offered to brief her, but her manager cut us short and responded that Hilary had no plans to attend. ... Worse, the video of her birthday wishes shows her boasting about her knowledge of Chechnya and how she 'reads' and 'does her research.' The more important question now is what is Swank going to do with the blood money paid from Kadyrov's coffers? She sidesteps the issue completely." The celebrities -- as well as dozens of Russian politicians and pop stars -- showed up to congratulate Kadyrov from a stage arranged between a gigantic mosque and a newly built business center. STORY: Seal's Chechen Leader Birthday Bash Performance Questioned By Human Rights Group During the birthday show, Swank said that she had been taken by the Chechen government's "passion to make peace and to make something beautiful." She claimed in her apology that her invitation to the concert made no mention of Kadyrov's birthday. Kadyrov has consistently denied wrongdoing, saying accusations against him were fabricated. Swank won Oscars for her roles in Boys Don't Cry and Million Dollar Baby. Her screen credits also include Freedom Writers, P.S. I Love You and Amelia. Special Report: TV's Hosts With the Most
Ryan Seacrest No one has come close to replicating the power and fortune amassed by legendary TV hosts Dick Clark, Merv Griffin and Oprah Winfrey - yet. But American Idol's Ryan Seacrest is on his way, and others are right behind. Today's TV hosts aren't satisfied with just their day jobs. If you don't have multiple shows, a line of licensed merchandise and a production company, you're not trying hard enough. It's all about creating empires, and hosts, from Anderson Cooper and Kelly Ripa to Dr. Drew Pinsky and Carson Daly, are running their careers like booming businesses. Octagon Entertainment managing director John Ferriter, whose clients include Piers Morgan and Pinsky, says the success of reality shows over the last decade, starting with Survivor and American Idol, triggered this generation of mogul hosts. "If they have the talent, aspiration and willpower, and put together a smart team, they can parlay it into the perfect business," he says. In using TV-hosting jobs as a launch pad, these emcees are all looking to reconstruct the success of the original titans in the field, Clark and Griffin, both of whom went on to oversee major production companies and dabble in all sorts of businesses. "They were able to combine their personal celebrity with their business acumen," Ferriter says. But by the 1990s, TV hosts were pretty much satisfied with being, well, TV hosts. The idea of nurturing a new generation of hosting moguls came when Daly moved the pop-culture needle in the late-'90s heyday of MTV's TRL. His agents, who included Ferriter, came up with a plan to push the host in a number of directions - including a production company, new TV and radio projects and sponsorship possibilities. But Daly says he wasn't comfortable "trying to be all things to all people and omnipresent," and he eventually took on new representation. So Daly's old team took their plan and instead turned their attention to Seacrest. "It was clear the kind of career he wanted," says Ferriter, who once represented the American Idol host. "He wanted a cross of what Dick and Merv had done." At the time, Seacrest was mainly known as a Los Angeles-based radio DJ. His agents hatched a plan to get him on American Idol and use that as a springboard for something much bigger. It worked: Seacrest reinvented the role of a TV host. He now emcees American Idol while simultaneously being the managing editor and lead anchor of E! News, hosting two syndicated radio shows and executive producing reality shows like Keeping Up With the Kardashians, pulling down at least $55 million annually. He's also partnering with AEG to launch a cable network and is rumored to be on the short list for a variety of additional jobs, including hosting Today. "It's brilliant what they've done with Ryan," says veteran hosting agent Babette Perry. "It will certainly be copied." Among those starting to make the grade are Morgan, who jumps between America's Got Talent and his CNN talk show, Piers Morgan Tonight; Cooper, who just launched the daytime talk show Anderson in addition to anchoring CNN's Anderson Cooper 360; Pinsky, with VH1's Celebrity Rehab, HLN's Dr. Drew and The CW's Dr. Drew's Lifechangers; Tom Bergeron, host of ABC's Dancing With the Stars and America's Funniest Home Videos; and The View cohost Joy Behar, who also toplines HLN's The Joy Behar Show. Elisabeth Hasselbeck turned her gig on The View into a springboard for licensing products like exercise equipment and a clothing line; she also just began hosting CMT's Angels Among Us. Phil Keoghan has used his Amazing Race popularity to shoot a documentary and peddle both luggage and nutrition bars. "The last thing you want to be is a host that's defined by one show," says Keoghan, who has developed a brand that encompasses books, TV shows and speeches. Then there are icons from other businesses, like the modeling and food worlds, who have morphed into TV powerhouses. Gordon Ramsay launched a production company after fronting several food-related shows in the U.K. and the U.S.; Heidi Klum has turned her Project Runway success into an empire. Other hosts looking to expand their domain include Top Chef's Padma Lakshmi, ESPN's Erin Andrews and Top Chef Masters' Curtis Stone. Even actors like Ripa (who hosts Live! With Regis and Kelly and has a production company), Mario Lopez (Extra, America's Best Dance Crew, H8R), Alison Sweeney (The Biggest Loser, Days of Our Lives) and Nick Cannon (America's Got Talent, Up All Night) are deciding that hosting offers them a long-lasting and profitable career. And a new crop of fresh faces, including The X Factor's Steve Jones, are plotting their careers very carefully. "The money isn't bad in hosting," says Perry. "Then you add these licensing deals, and they get a percentage of the product." Another host following in Seacrest's footsteps is, ironically, Daly. With the success of NBC's The Voice, a thriving radio career and the long- running Last Call With Carson Daly, he says he feels "older and wiser" about where to take his career. "I'm back to the way my life felt 10 years ago," Daly says. "I'm grateful for the jobs I have." Subscribe to TV Guide Magazine now!

Dane Prepare, Matt Saracen and Juliet from 'Lost' Designed a Drama Together

Fringe Bosses: Peter Never Existed, Nevertheless the Last Three Seasons Still Did
Fringe [SPOILER ALERT: This story includes key plot particulars around of Fringe] Peter Bishop never existed: True. Neither did what went lower through the final three seasons of Fringe: False. But where we last left off had many fans itchiness their heads. After Peter (Joshua Jackson) built a bridge involving the two galaxies to have the ability to save huge levels of lives, he apparently disappeared into nothing. Professionals noted that Peter had, really, never existed whatsoever, a comment that triggered just as much confusion since it did outrage among audiences. Fringe Finale: Guess who never existed? If Peter had never existed, then did anything we seen throughout the final three years really happen? Jackson feels your frustration. "Being interested in shows similar to this, I am with everybody who goes, 'Don't you dare tell me that we just wasted three years of my existence by saying, 'Oops! This didn't really happen, we're beginning from scratch' So, I buy that concern, nevertheless the idea is not to erase a history of Fringe," he notifies TVGuide.com. Aside from the MIA Peter, the fourth season opener won't believe different then what we view. It's a combination of freaky procedural cases while using underlying story of saving the two galaxies. Just less Peter. "We're not yanking a bait and switch, like guy, everything will be a dream," executive producer J.H. Wyman states. "The fact remains, everyone knows perfectly that everything did happen the way happens. It's not as as trying to create people think everything you've seen does not have value any more. It's quite contrary. Everything includes value." "Yes, he were available,Inch Wyman continues, while not for just about any very very long time inside the minds in the Fringe Division. The finale scene while using Experts saying he didn't exist "will be a slight teaser inside the wrong direction because Peter were available, but Peter died becoming an adult. Both Peters died as [children]," John Noble states. Fall Preview: Get scoop inside your favorite returning shows Because of this, you will notice several large changes. "It really suggests that Olivia [Anna Torv] got Walter in the institution because she needed his understanding. She didn't need Peter, she just required to appreciate this guy as they understood a great deal,In . Noble states, watching that without Peter to ground him, Walter has become a real neurotic madman. Not unlike the concept with the spine for the Future II - Noble really used this awesome reference to the describe it - the timeline of Fringe has changed in another way because Peter wasn't there to affect it. "A number of things he was associated with didn't emerge as our biological forebears did, the means by which we are familiar with,In . Wyman states. Adds executive producer Rob Pinkner: "It's completely feasible for a couple of from the cases that we view will return and frequently with assorted males with another number of conditions." Still, that isn't saying Peter's presence won't be felt. You now request , wherever is Peter? "Let's just say home is where the heart is," Wyman states. "Let us suppose without warning you didn't exist after which it maybe in a few capacity you are able to witness the fact nobody knows you. I'm speaking a good amount that finish up like?Inch Gallery: Which Tv shows hopped the shark last season? The idea of being connected with individuals you prefer and transcending the constraints of space and time is probably the major types of year. "The theme that have been really considering this year is existence is valued with the connections that individuals make," Wyman states. "What impact must you individuals within your existence? In the event you weren't there a sum they finish up like? And the other way round.Inch Even when Peter does eventually ensure it is to reality, he'll be somebody different. "Because the guy that individuals met in the beginning of Fringe did not have need to be there, and progressively got warped into this, as John which i known into it, fanboy. Throughout doing that, he kind of went from being the impetuous teen in the show to kind of sulking inside the corner, to actually like a guy," Jackson states. "As well as the guy who return for the show after you have sacrificed themselves for your adoration for his household is yet another guy. In my opinion he's developed a good deal. In my opinion another guy returns in comparison to guy that left." Jackson, who's never arrived at play in the doppelganger version of themselves, is excited for your challenge of playing a completely new kind of Peter. "We spent a great deal time talking about this father/boy dynamic," according to him. "We spent three years building with a place, therefore we achieve type of start with scratch, decide just what the new rules are, after which it build to a different place, to ensure that being an actress, that in my opinion is regarded as the fun." Have a look at our fall preview for galleries, scoop, premiere calendars plus much more! Elsewhere, the two galaxies continue being every single other bands throats, however are forced, in several ways, to synergy to be able to save both sides. "Both galaxies are [still] dying," Wyman states. "The Two sides are self-charged with healing their two galaxies and putting away their versions to get this done. The Two sides getting belief in each other and extremely racking your brains on what they're all coping with is yet another large part of the season continue. In . For your Olivias, cooperating won't be simple. "You'll be able to certainly expect an bitterness between each of them because things still happen the way they happened," Wyman states. "Bolivia came the following to accomplish what she needed to complete, but Peter wasn't part of that equation. So, simply what does that seem to be like then? How did she dominate Olivia's existence and do you know the items that we didn't see a year ago you can type of include into this year?In . Exactly what are you searching toward this season?
